Writing Lab – New Features, Academic Year 2026/2027
June 8, 2026
Over the past several months, Writing Lab has added features that help teachers work more efficiently, give students more creative ownership over their writing, and make it easier to share finished work.
Teachers who manage many classes can now colour-code them and mark favourites. This is particularly helpful for schools that import classes through an LMS, where long lists can make it hard to quickly find what you need.
What this means in practice:

Students can now personalise the back cover of their standard or picture book — adding their own image and a short description of up to 170 characters.
When printing, a QR code or link can be included on the back cover that points directly to the online version of the book. Parents, grandparents, and other readers can then open the story on any device — and listen to the child read it aloud.
Why this matters for students:

Students can now create their own postcards, complete with a title, image, message (up to 500 characters), address, and stamp.
This format works well for:
These additions build on Writing Lab's role as a creative writing and publishing platform for primary and secondary classrooms. Further updates are in development for the 2026/2027 school year.
